Changing Everything, For Everyone

No other scientific endeavor has as great a potential impact upon the future of our species. Our success will transform how subsequent generations see themselves in the world.

§1 Imagine the impact upon science, technology and society if a truly scientific explanation of experience in nature were available and its effects reproducible. Not only will it enable new technologies and inform medicine, it will change how we all see ourselves in the world. Please join us on this incredible journey and give generously to the Institute today.

How your funds will be used

§4 Your gift directly supports our day-to-day operations, our continuing research, our seminars and workshops at Stanford University and elsewhere, and the development of educational media. It also contributes to our further fund raising. We have an endowment goal of $100MM in the next three years. With this endowment we plan to establish a faculty run institution whose single scientific goal is the Explanation of Experience in Nature. Thank you for participating.

Endowment

§5 If you wish to make a contribution to our endowment then please contact the board of directors directly by calling +1-408-732-8400 and ask to speak to Steven about endowment.

Reasons to support the Institute for Advanced Science & Engineering

Quite simply, the success of the Institute will change everything, for everyone.

§6 No other scientific endeavor has as great a long term consequence for our species. It will transform how the generations that follow see themselves in the world. It will contribute to evolutionary theory and all the natural sciences. It will lift the uncertainty that surrounds notions of consciousness and spirituality and may eventually lead to fewer social conflicts based on this uncertainty. It will further advance technology by informing medicine and providing solutions to the intractable problems of sensory function, recognition and motility. Our success pushes the frontiers of science, this advance may contribute to greater social understanding and further our technological capability.

§7 No-one will be untouched by it.

§8 The Institute for Advanced Science & Engineering is an independent research institute that relies upon donations from individuals and nongovernmental organizations. We rely upon the support of forward thinking individuals like you.note:1(ref.1)

End Notes

note:1The merit of this funding strategy is best explained by Lee Smolin in his recent book The Trouble with Physics. This book discusses the sociology of contemporary science. To understand why independently funded science is a better idea we recommend reading this book. Lee Smolin is a theoretical physicist and a founding member of the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics. The Perimeter Institute and the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton are models of, and precedence for, our strategy.
